The Moon Sails Out (Op. 42)




This work is a paraphrase based upon the composer’s song – a setting of the poem ‘The Moon Sail Out’ by Federico Garcia Lorca. The song was originally written for tenor, clarinet and piano and it comes from his cycle, ‘On the Wings of Love’ Op.38. The work was commissioned by the celebrated cellist Bernard Gregor-Smith on the occasion of his 65th Birthday and it received its first performance at the Wigmore Hall on the 3rd December 2010. It has been recorded on the EMF record label by Richard Jenkinson (‘cello) and Benjamin Frith (piano) – (See Recordings).
