Composed: 1993
Duration: 7 minutes
Scoring: S.A.T.B and Organ
First performance: 29th January 1994 by Cantorus Novi, conductor David Soward at Cirencester Parish Church.

In his anthem, ‘O Sing Aloud to God’, Ian Venables has drawn from Psalms 77, 81 and 105 as his text. It has three distinct sections. The first and third sections are affirmative and uplifting in mood and generally homophonic in texture. The central section, in contrast, is slow and highly contrapuntal and relies heavily on chromaticism to heighten its emotion.

It is dedicated to the late Christopher Palmer; in gratitude for his friendship and unfailing support of the composers music.
